Data we collect

None. We do not collect, transmit, store, sell or share any personal data. Specifically, Offlingo does not collect:

• The text you translate, or its translation
• Your name, email address, phone number or any account identifier
• What you say when you use Speak: the audio is turned into text on your iPhone and is never recorded, stored or sent
• Your location, contacts, photos or camera input
• Advertising identifiers, device fingerprints or usage analytics
• Crash reports or diagnostic telemetry

How translation works

Translation runs on models that live on your device, using Apple's Translation framework. When you choose a language pair, iOS downloads that pair's models once. From then on translation happens entirely on your iPhone, with no network connection required and no request carrying your text anywhere.

Speaking instead of typing

Tap Speak and Offlingo listens in the language you have chosen, using Apple's speech recognition on your device. The microphone is used only while Speak is on, the words appear as text in the app, and the audio itself is never saved or sent anywhere. The first time you speak in a language, iOS downloads Apple's speech model for it once, as it does for translation.

Rewriting and tutor notes

Offlingo can rewrite a translation in a different register and explain how a phrase works. This uses Apple Intelligence, the model already built into iOS, and runs on your device. It is available on iPhone 15 Pro and newer; on other iPhones these two features are not offered, and translation works exactly as it does everywhere else.

Offlingo downloads no language model of its own and makes no network requests. Earlier builds offered an optional open-weights model; it has been removed, and its files are deleted automatically when you update.

What is stored on your device

• Translation history: kept in the app's private container so you can search and re-use past translations.
• Preferences: your chosen languages and settings.
• Downloaded models: Apple's language packs for the pairs you use, and Apple's speech models for the languages you speak in.

None of this is transmitted anywhere. Clearing history, from Settings or from the History screen, immediately and permanently deletes every saved translation, including starred ones. Deleting the app removes all of it.

Permissions

Offlingo asks for two permissions, and only the first time you tap Speak: the microphone, and speech recognition. Both are used on your device to turn what you say into text. If you never use Speak, neither is requested, and everything else works the same.

It does not ask for the camera, photo library, contacts, location, or notifications. Text-to-speech uses voices already present on your device and needs no permission.

Third parties

Offlingo contains no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs. No data is shared with any third party, because none is collected.

Network activity

The app makes no network requests during normal use. The only network activity that can occur is the one-time download of Apple's language packs and speech models, performed by iOS, described above, which you initiate.

Children

Offlingo is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date. Any change that affected what the app does with your data would be described here before it shipped.
